Description

Producing double curved structure with planar materials was always a challenge resolved on different ways. Besides creating polygons, “waffle” structure is another interesting way of representation of these forms. The strips create an effect of closed surface that changes toward see through as the view angle goes toward orthogonal.

The procedure of creating waffle structure is called sectioning and it has long history of use in nautical and aeronautical industries. The strips outlines are created as sections of planes through double curved volume. Connection of the strips is done with slits that take into the consideration thickness of plate material.
